Lake Erie Islands Fishing Report 11-05-23
Kevin and I and Dave and his son headed out on Lake Erie going out of Catawba Sunday. Water surface temperature was running in the upper 40's and there was a fog that rolled in around 10 am and never left the entire day. Thank goodness for GPS on the electronics. The fishing day was a mixture of everything to get some bites. The bass weren't bunched up on any one area. We moved deep and caught some in 20 to 25 feet of water, and we moved shallow and caught some in 2 to 3 feet of water. The key was hitting lots of places and it turned out to be the best pattern for the day. We caught smallmouth on tubes, drop shot, jerkbait, and swimbaits. The total tally was around 30 bass for Kevin and I. Dave and his son a little tougher go of it as the bite wasn't great. The best five for Kevin and I was a respectable 22 1/2 lbs. Nothing spectacular for Lake Erie, but a solid day. #LakeErie #lake #erie #islands #smallmouth #bass #fishing
This was our first fishing trip of 2023. Strong winds and storms the day prior led into our bluebird fishing day. Come along to see how we stringed some bites together on a tough fishing condition day. Thanks for being part of our community and stayed tuned for more exclusive content from R & J Bass Fishing. Lake Erie Walleye hanging around a piece of structure. I took this footage last summer in about 15 feet of water.
I was able to get my buddy Jim out on the ice for the first time in about 10 years. We fished East Harbor of Lake Erie. What makes this area unique is that you are fishing 3 to 4 feet of water and you can look down the ice fishing hole and see the fish hit. For us guys up north it doesn't get much better during the winter. The only bad part is drilling through about 15 inches of ice. I let Jim use the underwater camera which gives a little extra excitement when the fish roll in. I'll leave a link if you would like to watch any of the underwater footage.
