Detroit River Bass Fishing 10-20-23
I met up with good friend Kevin Schleeter for a day of fishing on the Detroit River. Three of Kevin's friends went out in Dave's boat, and Kevin and I went out in his. We launched at Elizabeth Park. The water surface temperature was running 53 to 54 degrees. Rain moved in and out throughout the day and became more consistent later in the day.
Kevin and I started out fishing some humps at the mouth of the river. Wind and waves made it difficult to stay on a spot very long. The spot lock on Kevin's trolling motor was malfunctioning, and it will most likely need some service this winter. We landed couple three-pound smallmouth in the first half hour and then just a rock bass over the next hour. The fishing was tough finding the right place that was holding good fish, and even harder trying to hold in the current and wind. Dave and their group weren't doing much better as we gave them a call while out there. They had just a couple small smallmouth.
Kevin and I decided to head up towards shore more and see what we could find around the weed edges in 10 to 12 feet of water. The first good pull was a northern pike that sucked down a 3.3-inch swimbait. We decided to go in little shallower and see if there was any action there. We only found one small muskie that gave a good show on jumping near the boat. The only other action there was one small largemouth.
It became decision time as we had a few other spots in mind we wanted to try and were quickly running out of time as it was 2 pm already. We called Dave and his group, and they were still stuck on two fish. We devised a game plan on the final spots we wanted to try before the day was out. Dave and his group headed for one, and Kevin and I headed for the other. Both choices ended up being winners. They made for a great day of fishing. Kevin and I stumbled on a huge group of largemouth, and Dave and his group did the same in the area they were in. Both groups ended with 50 to 65 largemouth to end the day. Kevin boated a nice 5 lber that helped boost our weight up for our best five. We ended up with just shy of 18 lbs for the day. Dave and his group said they had around 16 lbs for their best five. Everyone had a great time, and despite the rain and wind it was a great day on the lake with friends. #DetroitRiver #detroit #river #smallmouth #bass #fishing #largemouth #michigan
This was our first fishing trip of 2023. Strong winds and storms the day prior led into our bluebird fishing day. Come along to see how we stringed some bites together on a tough fishing condition day. Thanks for being part of our community and stayed tuned for more exclusive content from R & J Bass Fishing. It's about that time of year to start thinking about fishing Lake St. Clair again. I've been holding off on posting this video until we got to March. This trip was really early in the Spring before they started to bed. #stclair #lake #smallmouthbass #smallmouthbassfishing #smallmouth #fishing #bassfishing
