Vineyard Lake 04-19-23
I fished Vineyard lake this past Wednesday. This a new lake for me to figure out as I don't know anything about it. It has really shallow flats that run 1 to 2 feet deep and lots of them. They quickly drop off into 8 to 12 feet from there. Couple real long channels that looked like prime spawning areas, but they were pretty old and silted in with 1 to 3 feet of water in them. The Raisin River comes in at one section of the lake and exits at another end. Both weren't possible to navigate due to being too shallow. I found two areas that panned out while I was fishing there. One was a shallow area that had leafy cabbage on it and it was 1 to 2 feet deep. The other was an area that was about 12 feet deep and had some deeper sparse weeds that were holding bluegill and other baitfish. It was a long point that hooked back into a pocket. Swim jig and jerkbait were the most effective lures.
This was our first fishing trip of 2023. Strong winds and storms the day prior led into our bluebird fishing day. Come along to see how we stringed some bites together on a tough fishing condition day. Thanks for being part of our community and stayed tuned for more exclusive content from R & J Bass Fishing. Lake Erie Walleye hanging around a piece of structure. I took this footage last summer in about 15 feet of water.
I was able to get my buddy Jim out on the ice for the first time in about 10 years. We fished East Harbor of Lake Erie. What makes this area unique is that you are fishing 3 to 4 feet of water and you can look down the ice fishing hole and see the fish hit. For us guys up north it doesn't get much better during the winter. The only bad part is drilling through about 15 inches of ice. I let Jim use the underwater camera which gives a little extra excitement when the fish roll in. I'll leave a link if you would like to watch any of the underwater footage.
