Vineyard Lake 04-19-23
I fished Vineyard lake this past Wednesday. This a new lake for me to figure out as I don't know anything about it. It has really shallow flats that run 1 to 2 feet deep and lots of them. They quickly drop off into 8 to 12 feet from there. Couple real long channels that looked like prime spawning areas, but they were pretty old and silted in with 1 to 3 feet of water in them. The Raisin River comes in at one section of the lake and exits at another end. Both weren't possible to navigate due to being too shallow. I found two areas that panned out while I was fishing there. One was a shallow area that had leafy cabbage on it and it was 1 to 2 feet deep. The other was an area that was about 12 feet deep and had some deeper sparse weeds that were holding bluegill and other baitfish. It was a long point that hooked back into a pocket. Swim jig and jerkbait were the most effective lures.
This was our first fishing trip of 2023. Strong winds and storms the day prior led into our bluebird fishing day. Come along to see how we stringed some bites together on a tough fishing condition day. Thanks for being part of our community and stayed tuned for more exclusive content from R & J Bass Fishing. I had one of the first websites back in the day for bass fishing. It was called Rick's Ultimate Bass Fishing. It consisted mainly of fishing articles and big bass photos from around the world. During that time I became friends with a fellow angler from California Chris Wolfgram (FishChris). FishChris ran a website called TrophyBassOnly.com. We shared a lot of notes, photos, and few long distance conversations over the phone back then. Here is one of his early submissions to my website back in 2000.
